All my drivers are up-to-date with the ones on the Acer's site. I have also disabled unimportant startup applications.
Windows 10 creators update slow boot windows 10#
I have already disabled Windows 10 services like Superfetch, Cortana (used gpedit.msc for Cortana but still shows up in the task manager), etc. Running Linux on live image is fast but running Windows that is installed on my hard drive is really sluggish.
Windows 10 creators update slow boot install#
I have already done a clean install of the creators update and still its the same. I read somewhere that resetting my OS can fix this issue but it didn't work. My older laptop which is a Sony Vaio with Intel i3 2330M, 6GB RAM (came with 2GB), 512MB Nvidia 410M and 320GB hard drive (which is almost full) is on the same build but runs fine without any slowdown. Opening games that ran perfectly on my laptop before update take a long time to launch and load. Booting time takes over a minute now and I have to wait another minute after logging into Windows to load up the icons properly before opening any app. All was fine until updating to the Fall Creators Update. It came with DOS pre-installed so I had to install Windows 10 myself. It has an Intel i5 7200U, 4GB of RAM, 2GB Nvidia 940MX and 1TB hard drive. The Creators Update made all photo thumbnails white.I recently bought a new laptop, Acer E5-575G with good specs. Incidentally, this isn’t the first bug to affect thumbnails in Windows 10. More importantly, rebuilding the cache every single time you boot defeats the purpose of having it. The thumbnail cache takes time to build so if it has to be rebuilt each time you start your system, it’s going to slow everything down. Overtime, Windows builds up this cache of thumbnails so that when you open a folder, it’s easier for you to browse its contents. When you create, save, or copy a new file to your system, it creates a thumbnail for it. With photos it’s the photo itself only smaller, with movies it’s often a scene from the movie, and with music it’s usually the cover art. Documents and text files are simply represented by an image of the app that can open them but photos, movies, and music are all represented by tiny versions of what is in the file. When you open a folder location in Firefox, you see each file is represented by an image. Once it has been rebuilt though, you shouldn’t have any more problems. This can take time, depending on how large your hard drive is, and how many files you have in it. We should mention that you will have to rebuild the thumbnail cache once after applying this fix. Once this task is no longer running, your thumbnail cache, once built, will not be deleted. Open the Windows Registry and navigate to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Thumbnail Cacheĭouble-click the Autorun DWORD value and set its value to 0.Īutomatic Maintenance will run like it always does but the SilentCleanup task will not. To disable the SilentCleanup task, you have to edit the Windows registry. In theory, you could stop Automatic Maintenance from running but it’s a necessary process that needs to run on your system so disabling it isn’t a viable solution. You need to stop this task from running in order to eliminate the problem. Fix Thumbnail Cache DeletingĪ task in Automatic Maintenance called SilentCleanup is what’s causing the thumbnails to disappear each time you boot. There’s a bug in the Fall Creators Update that results in the thumbnail cache deleting after a restart, or a shut down. Long after you’ve updated to a newer version of the OS, these pesky little things continue to mar your experience and everyday workflow. The only difference is no one likes them and they aren’t added on purpose.

Windows 10 and the bugs that come with its updates are like Easter eggs in a Marvel movie.
